"Commando" is a great sides-crolling action game. Terrorists have hijacked a transport with nuclear weapons in the middle of Texas and now it's your task to infiltrate their camp and get the weapons back...
The game has everything you wish for in an action game. Fast-paced action in different surroundings (jungle, warehouse, city), several guns and grenades you can choose from (after you collected them), a great soundtrack and decent controlling.
There are lots of checkpoints in every level, so you don't have to start from the beginning over and over again every time you die. And best thing: You have twenty lives, so you really can play for a while before there is a "Game Over". And your enemies stay dead after you killed them once (even when you die and have to start from the checkpoint again).
"Commando" was developed by Hamish McLeod, a member of "Fallen Angel Industries", one of the best freeware making groups. Unfortunately their website was taken over some time ago and so it's a bit hard to find their games at the moment (we have some more on the website like "A Game with a Kitty", and "Reactor09").
IMPORTANT: Press Alt + Enter after starting the game to play in fullscreen mode!
Chroelle : I actually returned to this one quite a few times. This is only due to the high gameplay quality. It annoyed me alot that it didn't have a fullscreen view, but the gameplay made up for it in full. (I found out later about PA's solution).
Also it is a FAIND (Fallen Angel Industries) game. And I am a huge fan of most of their games...
Scythe : A small, but crazy platform shooter. You should appreciate how generous it is with lives, but you'll soon see that you'll need them. Lots of different weapons, plenty of enemies, gallons of gore. Fun.
Pater Alf : I just played the game again and in fact there is a full screen mode. Just press Alt + Enter after starting the game and it will switch to fullscreen.
Chroelle : This game lets you play as a commando infiltrating a terrorist camp. The terrorists have captured warheads and it is your job to stop them before they choose to use them.
This is one more of FALLEN ANGEL INDUSTRIES games, which is hard to find since their webpage was taken over, and they themselves are scattered. A few of them still make games though.
It might be possible to find some of them and ask permission.
Unfortunately the game plays in a small window, which takes some away from it, but it is still fun and I have been playing ti for quite a while now.
LV-426 is a remake of the Commodore 64 game “Aliens” (Electric Dreams, 1987). It was a first-person shooter game based on the second movie in the Alien movie series. The remake retains most of the original game’s elements while providing updated graphics / sounds / music, a split screen mode for two player games and many other enhancements.
