Ark 22 (2005)

by HiVE

Ark 22 has you playing the character of a spaceship engineer on board an Arc - a ship en route to finding a new habitat for its people. He dreams of his ship crashing down after being hit by something unidentified. Before he is able to warn anyone (properly) the dream comes true and their mission to find a new planet is ended abruptly. Fortunately the planet they land on is fine for them to breathe and feed off, but it is in no way nice. The ice covered planet holds many dangers, and you have to face most of them as you try and puzzle and quest your way through the game.

Ark 22 is not only long but longer than most RPG's. They promise 6-10 hours of gameplay and I think they are cutting it short on that. It will be hard to find a person who actually completed the game yet, though some claim to have done so.

Dont judge this game by its cover, it surely has more to offer than the graphical side shows.

Discussion on our forums on Ark 22

  • Chroelle :
think this game has amazing pros and just as amazing cons...
The pure length of this game will have you looking long for somebody who actually finished it, and the graphics isn't that inspiring either...BUT.... I think the amount of puzzles will keep you in complete symbiose with this game if you are into puzzles. This is an eternity game that you can play on and off for months on end, when oyu just feel like picking it up.

  • Scythe :
The game suffers from lack of feedback on where you need to go next, as well as some bugs that are potentially lethal. I know that a lot of bugs were already sorted out, and it's a very ambitious game, so Zelda fans should definitely find something here that they like, if they're patient.
  • Pager :
Don't you save in that chamber back in the town? It's in one of the buildings...
  • Scythe :
It's been a long time since I deleted it... sorry. I think there were save points?
  • Chroelle :
Ok I have a damn annoying request... Where do you save. I got around to playing chapter 2 and after a deciding that I played enough for tonight I wanted to exit. And I cant find the save option. Since I choose a savegame slot at the beginning of the game I thought that maybe it autosaved BUT no. I have to start the game all over... Any clues for me?

    eMTe:

z, x, c, f is only used once you get the items they correspond to.

There is no inventory manipulation. The third "key" are the arrow keys used to navigate the menu.

The crystals are tricky - the first one you get is used for something else (look for a place where it fits).

  • Chroelle :
I will try this one out to see if I can figure it out. Otherwise I have the email for the developer, so maybe he can help out (if he cant then I dont know who can :D)
  • eMTe :
Very messy interface if you ask me...

    What are z, x, c, f keys for?

When you enter status/inventory panel how do you manipulate objects? (Esc key exits, with Enter key you examine objects, there's also third key visible (space? space doesnt work))

I have the crystals and want to trade them with shopkeeper, but all I receive is his reply "oh, you dont have any?". So how exactly can I sell them?

No manual in gamefolder, no manual in web. If you played this game please give some clues...

  • Chroelle :
I sent a mail regarding the license via the board... Lets see what happens.
  • eMTe :
This looks like the excellent game, cant say if that's true (game received varied reviews, but generally enthusiastic). All I can say now is that music is best element of this game.

Dont quit this game until after at least half an hour of playing. Not until then do you know how great a game you are looking at. Unfortunately it seems rather dull up until then...
