Frozen Bubble (2002)

by Guillaume Cottenceau

"Frozen Bubble" is a clone of the classic game "Puzzle Bubble" where your mission is to shoot coloured balls at a platform of balls in the top of the screen. When you stick three balls with the same colour together you remove them. The top priority is of course to not let the mass of balls grow so low that you cannot defend yourself any longer and end up being smothered in balls.... (Now close your eyes and check the mental picture).

So basically it has similarities to one of the most popular games ever called "Tetris", but with some development on the gameplay.

The trick in this game is of course to shoot the topmost balls down, since that will cause the lower balls to fall down too. As the game progresses this of course becomes increasingly difficult as the variety of colours in which the balls come grows and the platform drops faster. But it still is the same goal - to remove all balls from the screen and don't die.

There has been builds in Mac, Linux and Windows for this game, but as the Linux version was improved time and time again and no-one supported the Mac and Windowns builds, the developers decided to shut them down. It is however possible to find the game as a java-applet here.

It is possible to play this game in a single player mode (100 levels), multiplayer mode (2-5 players) or even make your own levels.

The game is very addictive so please take this into consideration before you start playing. Eat a big lunch before powering it up - you never know when you will eat again.

Discussion on our forums on Frozen Bubble

  • Pater Alf :
Ok, Chroelle wrote a description of the game that was "slightly" better and so the game was finally added to the database. Thank you, Chroelle!!!

You can download "Frozen Bubble" from our game info page:

  • Pater Alf :
I'm not sure if I really should write this in the game description: "I have no idea what the game is about. But look at the screenshot, maybe you can figure it out yourself!" ;)
  • Scythe :
I think the screen-shot describes more than I can to with words..

    :p

  • Pater Alf :
Can anyone write a short description about this game? I'd really like to add it to the database, but it's only available for Linux any longer and so I have no idea what it is about...:(
  • Chroelle :
I have no idea where it went. I am certain that we did not have to use PERL and such to make it play before. So it seems it might have been available for windows at some point but not anymore. I had four copies of it on my HD about half a year ago (I copied the folder into 4 different backup places), but I deleted them all back then....

    So I cant help here...

    I also tried searching for it...But nothing...Alas...:(
Perhaps someone turns up some day (Chillum?) and has it on there HD. If so:
Please make us aware of it, so we can get it uploaded.... :D

  • Pater Alf :
Is there anyone who has a copy of the old Windows version of this game? It is no longer available at the official homepage and the new version (version 2.1.0) is for Linux only...
  • Pater Alf :
No idea, this one was accepted before I even became a Game Hunter (which means it was accepted a long time ago). As far as I can see there's no reason that prevents us from adding it to the database...
  • Chroelle :
I am looking at this, and I surely cannot remember why it isn't on the site? Can anyone else tell me?
  • Chroelle :
Could someone please give me a direct link to this games windows download. I don't really have the time to look through those downloadslinks to find the correct one if I am to make pages for all games accepted today.
Also I could need a genre for this game. So far I labelled it passtime.
