Akuji the Demon (2003)

by Buster

Game starts where most other games end:

Akuji has been an evil demon for centuries and brought pain and deaths to mankind. But one day a great hero showed up, defeated Akuji and his vicious power was sealed into nine stones. The hero married the princess, became king and they lived happy ever after...

...until now! You take the role of Akuji and have to find the nine stones that were hidden somewhere in the Lost Underground to get your power back and have your revenge on the brave knight...

"Akuji the Demon" is a cute and colourful platformer. It's not as hard as many other platformers and it has a clear level design that isn't too confusing. Because of that and the fact that there is nearly no brutality, the game is even suitable for younger kids (which doesn't meant it's not good fun for adults as well).

The download includes the original Japanese game file as well as an English translation patch.

Discussion on our forums on Akuji the Demon

  • Pater Alf :
Akuji the Demon has been added to CWF's database. You can download the game from our game info page:

  • Scythe :
This otherwise entertaining platformer suffers from extremely poor controls in the air. I learned to live with it, until the precision jumping started. After swimming in lava fifteen times in a row, I was disgusted beyond belief.

Otherwise, likeable enough, nice standard upgrades, pretty poor resolution (full screen caused my game to crash, but maxed window worked fine), super annoying repeated music.

Cute graphics, nice music, well working controls and a good level design (that isn't confusing at all) make this game highly playable. It might be not as challenging than many other platformers, but I felt entertained.
