When a plastic surgeon is found dead in his office, the police is quick to apprehend a main suspect. It's a textbook case – except that the suspect is actually innocent. There's much more behind the deceased doctor. Much more.
Dirty Split is a point & click adventure game in which you direct a private investigator, Alan Baxter. You'll accompany him on his investigations and help him to do his job and to solve the case. You'll travel alongside Baxter through the wild world of the early 1960ies, and together you'll visit the sparkling life in Los Angeles, the exciting events in Las Vegas and many more places. In conversations with a variety of interesting characters both Baxter and you will come closer to the truth step by step. (taken from the official manual)
The graphics, the soundtrack and the voice acting of "Dirty Split" are amongst the best ones you'll find in the freeware sector. The game also has an interesting story and you won't guess the solution of the mystery right from the start.
So even if the puzzles are a bit too easy to solve, you should give "Dirty Split" a try!
There are also translations into german, french and czech. Please visit the official homepage to download these.
Chroelle : I actually liked this quite a lot. I think it deserves alot of credit on sound, graphic, voiceacting and gameplay. Not to mention the plot that is not obvious from the get go. Sure after a while you get an idea, but not until the end is the full story revealed and solved.
Oh and not to mention the many hidden cameos and the likes bound to the 60's and films surrounding that era. The couple in the lobby sure does look familiar.
I like this and I think they could very easily make this into a series with Mr. Baxter in the lead.
Did you see the bloopers in the credits? The voiceact bloopers are fun to hear. Not haha funny, but it is always nice to know that there are actual people behind the computergraphics.
Oh and try to examine the contents of the desk in the policeprecinct before going in to the chiefs office.
A good game in my book.
eMTe : Ive finished it and I'm even more disappointed than when I finished Broken Sword. Plot is linear, hints given by main character and notebook are in fact solutions (hints are not needed anyway - linearity prevents from using brain well enough) and puzzles are...wait, what puzzles? Really bad game with very good plot, dialogues and fantastic technical side. Great pleasure to click, pain to play, easy to forget.
eMTe : Easiness is definitely a problem here! DS is good as a cartoon though.
Pater Alf : Well, about the technical side of the game, there is nothing I can complain about. Clear and colourful graphics in a style I personally like, an excellent soundtrack and very good voice acting (which could have been a bit louder in some places).
But let's come to the content: The story is interesting and you don't know what's going on right from the beginning. That's fine. But on the other hand the puzzles are much too easy to solve. Whenever there seems to be a problem, the solution is just a few clicks away. This is a typical problem for amateur/fan adventures as it seems there is nothing harder than to create good and challenging puzzles...

Railwaymodeler : OK, now my curiousity is piqued and I am going to download this game. It's 183 MB so I'll go grab a cup of coffee while it downloads!
Pater Alf : Well, another proof that freeware adventures don't have to hide behind professional products any longer. Just look at the beautiful graphics and listen to the excellent soundtrack and voice acting...
