Deflektor (2004)

by Ignacio Pérez Gil

Remake of game developed by Vortex Software and published by Gremlin Graphics in 1987.

The goal in each of 63 levels is to manipulate the mirrors so that the laser beam from emitter can reach receiver. Receiver is blocked by an obstacle which can be opened only if you destroy (with laser) a given number of detonators placed around the screen. There's time limit for each level and there's also an overload bar which decreases each time the beam hits mine or is deflected in 180 angle and reenters the emitter. If one of the bars reaches zero you lose a life.

There are 3 lives and no save slots, so game must be finished in one go.

There are 2 versions of this remake. Ignacio Perez finished the first one in 1998, but 6 years later decided that it had grown too old and created new one. Screenshots you see are for this new, enhanced version, but you can also download the old one to see how the game changed.

Deflektor remake is also notable for being one of the few authorized freeware games, what means that its creator got permission to make it from developers of original game.

Discussion on our forums on Deflektor

  • Chroelle :
A hectic, somewhat confusing puzzler - at its best. I really had a good time with this, and think others will too. Nice graphics, suddle music that doesn't get annoying, clear gameplay, fitting difficulty, and great fun. Try the second practice level just to see how hectic this can get.

I really liked this game when I played it on my old C64.

And I think it's one of the games that was remaked most often. I have at least two more "Deflektor" remakes at my HDD (one is crap, the other one is quite good).

Two remakes of 20 year old puzzle game.

The idea of the game is to direct the laser beam into the receiver. Normally the receiver is covered by a barrier that will only be removed once all of the
nodes have been destroyed, which again is done by directing the laser beam into them.

    Fun. I admit.
