Echoes (2007)

"Echoes" is a fast-paced shoot'em up game in the tradition of "Asteroids". Here's what the developer wrote about it:

Echoes is essentially Binary Zoo Studios do Asteroids and to save anyone else the trouble of making the comparison, yes, it is "a bit like Geometry Wars".

The game consists of 10 levels with a new enemy introduced on each new level. They have different strengths, weaknesses and require different strategies to deal with effectively. (mini asteroid, small asteroid, large asteroid, XXL asteroid, comet, meteor storm, asteroid belt, planet, black hole & sun.)

The player loses energy when hit by an enemy. Remaining energy is shown on the HUD but the coloured ring around the player also indicates energy status (a large, green circle changing to a small red circle as energy depletes).

There are 3 different powerups that appear at random intervals to aid your progress:

Weapon Up - Increase weapon power
Energy Up - Increase energy (a circle around the player shows your current energy level)
Ring of Bullets - creates a ring of bullets that rip through anything in their path (taken from the official manual)

So again the developers of Binary Zoo take a simple and well known game concept and turn it into something different and new. It was never more fun to play "Asteroids"!

  I took some own screenshots and added them to the first post. They are not as good as the old ones as they are from the early stages of the game, but you will get an impression. They have the copyright message as well, but that shouldn't be a problem as it is an ingame message (so it will be on every screenshot).
  
  But to say something about the game: It's pretty good fun! Binaryzoo really knows how to take old game concepts and change them in a way that something completely new comes out. It was never that much fun to play "Asteroids".

  This game is not for epileptics. Its an asteroids clone with a [s]little[/s] more modern look. It gives more control than the classic asteroids, since you can control the movement of your "entity" with the mouse, and the aim with the keyboard, or vice-versa.
