The Ancients' Tome (2001)

by Pondwater

This game is all about intuition. Feeling your way through the game. There are no words in the game after the credit screen. There is only pictures that makes you guess what to do, and very good actually.

If you cannot seem to guess what is going on then it is all about pressing the correct keys in the proper time. You can use the QWEASDZXC keys or the numerical right hand 1-9. You need to press them according to their position relative to the position of the image you want to select. So If you want to select FIRE, HARDDRIVE in the first gameplay screenie, you would want to press A and then Z or 4 and then 1. If you press the wrong keys you can reset the board by pressing 5 or S.
You have to press the correct images before the console drops to the ground and looses energy, and ultimately explodes.

Have fun.

  • Chroelle :
Ancients tome is now added to the CWF-family of games ready to be downloaded in seconds:

  • Pater Alf :
Can't say that I love or hate this game (homepage says that there are just these two possibilities), but it's interesting enough to be played for a while. After I found out what to do (which wasn't clear for me at the beginning), you could find me hammering at my keyboard to type in the correct key combinations as fast as possible. But that wasn't enough after a few levels when my memory left me and I forgot some of the codes. Nice thing that you can train both (reaction and memory) with this game.

Unfortunately the game is rather short and except for the graet basic concept there isn't much variety in gameplay. I like it nonetheless.

  • Drasir-Vel :
A good action puzzler that can get your mind going. I could imagine this game could be quite addictive if you get a bit good at it.
  • Chroelle :
I really like this for making me struggle with my mind and memory all along.
  • Scythe :
I'm undecided, but it's certainly a challenging game, in its simplicity.
  • eMTe :
Very strange game in which your first task is to figure out what menu icons mean... Basically, you need to figure out everything by yourself. Game requires close observation, fast fingers and good memory. It's hard to describe, really, what this game really is. But seems to be fun. Youll love it or hate it, exactly as Pondwater states on his site. To check.
