Apprentice II: The Knight's Move (2004)

by Herculean Effort Productions

Pib is back in his first full length adventure. The small town in which he lives is preparing for war and he gets ordered to join the army. But Pib wouldn't be a magician's apprentice if he couldn't think of a way to prevent this. If he becomes a real wizard before Lord Ironcrow comes back to get him, he will stay a free man. But before he can get his diploma there are three tasks to complete...

The game has wonderful graphics, nice music and a great atmosphere. And the puzzles are much harder this time. Again there's a "secret puzzle" (if you find it, please inform us in our forum).

Unfortunately there is no voice acting this time, but according to the developers there is hope for a deluxe version when the whole trilogy is finished.

  • Pater Alf :
But there is such a function... ;)
Just use [*spoiler] text [*/spoiler]. Without the * of course.

  • eMTe :
It reminds me...we need decent spoiler-hiding feature. Like the one AGS forums have. We, brave adventurers and pointandclickers really hate spoilers.
  • Chroelle :
I just remembered this game and decided to go see what the progress was on the sequel - and I can spare you the trip. It is not coming out any day soon. Both brothers are hung up with real life, and are trying to find the time to do Apprentice 3: Checkmate justice and play it. They are working on it so slowly that they dont see it coming out soon. They are annoyed with this as well, but have to face facts (and threats of rent-payments) before they can even begin thinking about working on it.
So all in all it seems we either have to wait for this (which it will probably be worth) or we simply give up and start looking for other great games in development to be our next gem... :)

  • Chroelle :
Thansk. Now lets see if I can find time to check it out. I am afraid this will turn into another of those things that I will do when I get mroe time.
  • Pater Alf :
I don't want to spoil the fun for everyone else, but I will send you a PM...
  • Chroelle :
Any chance of a spoiler? I must admit I put the game down a long time ago, but would like to get every single bit of it with me. :D
  • Pater Alf :
Any news on finding the secret puzzle PA?

Yeah, I finally found it. In fact it wasn't that hard. It's not a real puzzle this time but you get rewarded with a nice cutscene when you finally find out what to do.

Great game, had lots of fun, puzzles were good, as you felt like you knew where you were going. Actually had quite a few other ways to solve the puzzles along the way, but there is always a set way to do things so I had to oblige....

Found a glitch where I was standing next to the highwaywoman for a while not doing anything (my cell rang) and all of a sudden the guard from yonder window came moving across the screen disappearing into the house on the left. As I had to go talk to him about a shirt... it seemed like I might have a problem, since he was missing, but just as I stopped at the gate, he blinked back from out of nowhere....

All in all, can't wait for the third part of the game.
Pib´s back and this time in a much longer adventure. Graphics and music are fine again, the story and the dialogues are funny and there seem to be "hidden quests" again (I´m not sure about this, but I think there might be one that has to do with the person that appeared behind the bush once or twice).

You're right, there IS a secret puzzle in Apprentice 2, but that's towards the end of the game.

So I´m going to play the game again, hoping to find the secret puzzle (damn I´m so curious).

  • Chroelle :
Thank you for dropping in. We hope to see lots of more games from you. It seems the quality you make is what we seek.

Do you think the trilogy could become even bigger, as in 4-5 games with Pib? And can you ever turn to other games with other main characters...

It seems unfortunately that the third installment has hit a wall. The last news on HE's site is from 2008...

Do we have a mistake on this page? Let us know.
